 Schedule Docs Talk 2014

 

2 & 3 AUGUST 2014

 In the framework of the 9th edition of the “Lemesos International Documentary Festival” (1-8 August 2014), a documentary professional event, Docs Talk, is organized. The initiative is addressed to professional directors / producers and to anyone interested in learning more about the various aspects of creating a documentary film, such as storytelling and the story's structure, the social importance of documentary, producing and developing and new ways of documentary making as is interactive documentary.

 DocsTalk is open for all and it will take place at Curium Palace Hotel at 11 Byron Street in Lemesos.

 DocsTalk is organized in collaboration with the Directors Guild of Cyprus.

The working language of the workshop will be English.

Sources 2 Lecture and Case Studies: Storytelling for Documentary

 Sources 2 adviser Arash T. Riahi will hold a lecture and show case studies about the general principles of Storytelling, involving
- the role of a well-constructed script in documenting a real life story
- how to construct documentary narrative and create visual stories with a cross-border appeal
- theory and examples for a better understanding of how documentaries are shaped and how filmmakers can make the most out of a strong subject
- focus on independent filmmakers working on projects with low or close-to-zero budgets

Presentation: The Social Importance of Documentary
Nicole van Schaik, the European Outreach Director of the BRITDOC Foundation, will give a presentation on independent documentary film as a tool for social or / and environmental change and on how the documentary landscape has changed, specifically over the last 10 years. In addition, she will refer to the effects this has had on the funding of documentaries today.

Seminar: Interactive Documentary: an overview of the field & a look to the future
Jess Linington, from the i-docs organization, will talk about how new technologies are changing the way we tell stories, allowing the field of interactive documentary to rapidly grow. Within this presentation, she will look at some of the common frameworks used for interactive storytelling, contextualizing them with some key examples of work from the genre. The talk will also look to the future, highlighting possibilities with regards to funding and support, as well as introducing some groundbreaking projects that are taking the field a step further. During the presentation, Arash T. Riahi, co-creator of the celebrated interactive documentary Everyday Rebellion, will present the project.
