About

'Lemesos International Documentary Festival', already in its 9th edition, returns on the big screen with an exquisite programme, showcasing the creative peaks of this demanding film genre.

From the 1st until the 8th of August 2014, twenty three of the most-discussed and awarded documentaries of the year, will be screening for the first time in Cyprus at the Festival’s permanent venue, Theatro Ena, and at Sousami bar, in the historic centre of Limassol.

A good documentary opens a window to the world and the Lemesos International Documentary Festival is back this summer to shed light on the shadows of contemporary world.

Through a diverse and multifaceted programme, the Festival intends to create those circumstances, under which the citizen/viewer can participate in a cultural event that establishes them as a recipient of information, and opens the way to a more alternative and substantial information.

Among this year’s films, we shall watch and discover cases of human exploitation and environmental disaster, we will meet people who managed to create and succeed in times of hardships, young girls who transformed their body into a weapon of resistance against the political establishment, great artists whose work has changed the world and children trying to cope with their demanding life. These are human stories and on-the-ground realities of a complex, contradicting and absurd world.

The event is organised by Brave New Culture and it is supported and funded by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Festival is co-organised by the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, the festival’s official communication sponsor.

The Festival hosts film professionals, both directors and producers, while the audience will have the opportunity to meet them and ask questions about topics concerning documentaries.

In the framework of the Festival’s parallel events, DocsTalk, a workshop for film professionals will be organized like every other year, aiming to offer to Cypriot filmmakers, producers and film professionals, the opportunity to develop their skills in documentary and acquire a global view of the field.

Docs Talk is organized in collaboration with the Directors Guild of Cyprus and it will take place at the Library Cafe Bar (1, Themidos street) in the city centre of Limassol.
